The dielectric tests are conducted to verify the isolation level assigned to an electrical device.
If the electric field exceeds the dielectric strength of the device, a breakdown (or disruptive discharge)
occurs and the unit may have its physical properties changed reversibly or irreversibly. In the case of
high-voltage devices, the dielectric strength must regenerate after any possible breakdown due to
excessive voltage, in order to ensure continuity of service after the fault is cleared.
